The
goal of Dramastage-Qumran is to provide a forum for the community of
Skid Row to access community theater and at the same time create a theater
and Young Peoples
Theatre Workshop for the many children who live in the Skid
Row area. These two models are design to combat the violence that is found in the individual, home, school and community. The focus will be on utilizing community theater to impact the community in terms of developing ways and means of dealing with violent and potential violent situations before the situation escalates into acts of violence. Qumran
is located on a dry plateau about a mile inland from the northwestern
shore The site was most likely constructed sometime during or before the reign of John Hyrcanus, 134-104 BCE and saw various phases of occupation until, probably after the fall of Jerusalem in 70 CE, Titus and his X Fretensis destroyed it. It is best known as the settlement nearest to the hiding place of the Dead Sea Scrolls in the caves of the sheer desert cliffs. It is located near 31°45'N, 35°26'E.
