SURVIVING THE NICKEL
Dramastage-Qumran is now producing a play that seek to deal with the
concept of violence as reflected by life in the skid row area of LA.
“If you want to know what’s happening in LA, don’t go to Beverly Hills or Hollywood, just come down here and the nickel will tell you”
These
lines are uttered by John Doe, one of the characters in Surviving The
Nickel, a play about surviving life on the nickel (fifth street) in the
skid row area of LA as we follow the journey of two community members
who fall from mainstream society and end up on skid row.
CATCH THE TIGER

These lines are uttered by pioneer Black Nationalist Leader Marcus Garvey in the play Catch The Tiger. A new play about J. Edgar Hoover’s efforts to bring down Marcus Garvey.
These two plays are written and directed by Melvin Ishmael Johnson.
